above is a screenshot from a page in Notes. I have purposely misspelled the word 'dividend' to show how the auto correct function springs into play. This is in spite of the fact that my keyboard settings look like this -
I find this auto correct function incredibly distracting and useless. I don't understand why it is operational when I apparently have it turned off. Is there a unique setting somewhere in Notes that would make it go away?

For any app you should also check Edit > Spelling and Grammar and make sure nothing is checked that you do not want to be active

Thanks for shedding light on the matter Tom but I'm still puzzled. Firstly, I would have thought that turning auto - correct off in Sonoma would be something that applies system wide - i.e. anything that you do on the Mac. So it's a bit disappointing to learn that no, in addition to turning auto - correct off in Sonoma, you then have to do it in every app as well. Having said that and following your instructions, I don't seem to be any closer to a solution. The Spelling and Grammar window of Notes indicates "automatic by language" in the bottom field. I can only assume that is why the auto - correct keeps happening. I can't turn this feature off so I am stuck.

I just unchecked it all and things work just fine so thank you very much - problem solved! As for the above note, I somehow overlooked the obvious and instead opened the "Spelling and Grammar" window which was of no help with my issues. All is well now - thanks again!
Unwanted Auto Correct in Notes
