Missing Photo files.....on unedited photos

I'm running OS 14.1.1 on 2021 iMac.

When I try to open any photo I get a Missing File message "Photos with unavailable original files cannot be opened. The original photo “Image 21.jpg” is either offline or cannot be found. Click “Find Original” to reconnect.

Any photo I haven't edited has lost connection to original file.

It starts with most recent photo from to day and goes back to October 26, 2023. Before that I can view full size photo and edit.

It started with OS14.1 so I closed everything and rebooted. No luck. So I installed the latest OS14.1.1 but again recent photos from the last month could not be accessed. I can only see the thumbnail

That suggests that photos imported since October 26 had the import setting "Copy items to the Photos library" unchecked AND that you moved or removed the external originals from the input location. I can't guess whether the setting was changed then or the removal started then.

You can correct this, assuming you still have the external original copies, either by use of the File > Consolidate... command to copy them into your library or by returning them to the accessible location from which you imported them.
