How to only synch only photos (not videos) with icloud

I have more available storage on my iPhone for videos than I have space available in my iCloud account. I often shoot very long videos that I only need, and only on my iPhone, for a few days. But the syncing happens and this creates problems in that my iCloud fills up, sometimes preventing iPhone Backup from succeeding.

This question was asked three years ago but, at that time, there was no solution. Has anything changed? Is it possible to configure the iPhone/iCloud so that only photos, not videos, are synced?

Videos are so, so, much larger than photos. There should be a way to treat them differently!

iPhone 13, iOS 17

Syncing Home Videos-Only with iCloud:

A. You Can't. What you are looking to perform is not a feature of iCloud. Home videos are created using the Camera app. There videos part of the Photos app. And, as a result, they show up when enabling Photos in iCloud settings. So, disable Photos in iCloud Settings, and they would not upload on their own --you'd have to perform the upload of each video.

B. So, Recommend this to Apple:

Do your Part: Provide Apple with feedback on this, letting them know about your concern.  Apple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is occurring, and what features to include in updates to come.. Apple will know nothing of your opinions and ideas, if you don't report it to them.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: that you want this to be an option and why. Include the URL of this thread
  4. Proceed from there as necessary
