I always had my notes synced between my iPhone and Mac. Recently I had my Mac updated and everything re-installed. It took my a couple of weeks to re-connect my iCloud to my Notes app and after I did, all the notes I wrote on my Mac during this time disappeared and were replaced by the iPhone notes. What happened? Can I get them back?

Double check that the notes you made during the period where you didn't have iCloud on your Mac aren't saved in the 'On My Mac' section.
If you press the button near the top left to show the side bar you should see the 'On My Mac' section.
Otherwise I am not sure.
Thank you for your help, but sadly all my "on my mac" notes are from 2017 and earlier now... I tried searching for my last notes that I remember (from last week) and can't find it – neither on my Mac not on my iPhone.
Added iCloud to my Macbook and all my old notes disappeared (now I can only see the notes I had on my iPhone.
