Over saturated / inaccurate colours on LG 4K Monitor

My LG monitor colours are significantly off compared to the Mac laptop monitor. Especially the orange/red comes out an annoying over saturated orange colour when it should be a more muted pastel orange.

The monitor is using the supplied "LG HDR 4K" colour profile. I could calibrate the monitor, but I'm surprised the default colour profile isn't calibrated better than this out of the box. Any ideas why?

I think I just found a simple "fix". I turned off the "High Dynamic Range" switch. When HDR is on, I get the inaccurate colours. When off, the colours match quite closely to those on the Laptop display.

So, I'll leave this off, but should there be a different colour profile for when the monitor is used with HDR? It doesn't seem reasonable to me that they shift like this just because you use HDR.
