Can't update or remove iTunes

I'm running iTunes on Windows 10. Although I can open iTunes my podcast playlist is no longer visible and I can't download new podcasts. When I went to delete iTunes so I can reload it (which has always worked in the past) iTunes is not listed in the Control Panel under Programs! So how do I delete iTunes if it isn't showing in the program directory? Thanks in advance for any help.

Does iTunes still appear in your Start Menu somewhere? If so see if there is a right-click option to uninstall it. This would be typical if iTunes has been installed from the Microsoft Store when the app would not appear in the regular Control Panel add/remove programs section.

If you don't find such a link go to the Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components section of Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates - Apple Community and apply each step in turn if you are able. Once done you should be able to reboot and then install iTunes.

Thanks for the response but the suggestions on the link did not address my issue, i.e. iTunes is not showing as a program when I go to Control Panel and then Uninstall programs. Since it's not listed in the inventory of programs on my PC I can't use the Uninstall feature. And when I try to download a new version I get an error message saying to uninstall a previous version. I have tried going back to an earlier version and of course shut down and restarted the PC many times, but still same issue. Thanks again.

Good news, bad news.

Thanks to your tip I was able to uninstall iTunes. But after reinstalling iTunes I then got an error message saying:

"iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes"

The version of iTunes I downloaded was from "support.apple.com/en-us/HT210384"

Any suggestions of how to correct this error would be greatly appreciated.

In doing more research I found one of your previous messages and using the link in it (thanks!!) I was able to download iTunes.

But now I'm still missing all my playlists, both music and podcasts. Any ideas of how to recover those playlists as some of the podcasts are old ones no longer available on the original site.

Thanks again for all your help.

My apologies for the long delay but we moved and I finally had the time to get back into this.

By using your instructions from one of your posts I was able to reinstall one of the old libraries. It was a very old library but at least it was usable and it had the playlists that had been missing.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your instructions and I really appreciate it!!
