Is the new 10.7 Final Cut Pro update not 2019 Intel Macs?

I have a fully loaded 2019 i9 Intel Mac Book pro.

The new Final Cut Pro 10.7 update came out today with the scrolling timeline etc.

I wanted to update to the new 10.7 version, because I am still on 10.6.10

My macOS version is the latest 14.1.2 Sonoma.

I went to the apple AppStore to update Final Cut Pro... but there is no update available. I opened FCP on my mac to see if there might be some kind of "update your version" in the settings menu. Nothing.

Am I missing something?

I know that Apple is "optimizing" everything for the new Mac chips, etc. but are they not going to release updates for Intel chip Macs? I may just be missing something obvious.

The update is available but sometimes it may not appear right away. It was not showing for me, and this is how I got it: I searched for it in the App Store. In the search results it said “Open”, indicating that a version was seen on my mac (which is normal, given that I hsd 10.6.10 in the Applications folder). I clicked on Final Cut Pro (NOT the Open button!) to open the Final Cut Page in the App Store. There, it said “Update”.

If the above fails, either wait a bit or drag the existing version to the trash (but don’t empty it), then return to the App Store. It will offer you a download and it will be the new version.

My macOS version is the latest 14.1.2 Sonoma.

As Luis and Tom say, it is possible to upgrade to 10.7 if you have macOS Sonoma.

Be sure to back up your data and new and old applications. When you open the library in 10.7, the version will be updated and you will not be able to open it in older versions.

When you resume editing, you will encounter some kind of crash. I understand the desire to try out new features, but it's still impossible to work stably with 10.7.

⚫︎The library I open crashes and I can't go back to an older version

Well spotted!

That test project was created yesterday from an old library.

I have now repeated the test with the original "untitled" project which was created several months ago with an earlier FCP version - the date has reverted to today.

I have dragged the curves all over the place, clicked on every picker several times, selected colours in the Viewer and still can't get FCP to crash.

FWIW I have just done some tests with FCP 10.7 to discover something about the crashing phenomena.

I used my Intel iMac and M2 Mac mini, both computers booted into Ventura.

To avoid wrecking any libraries I duplicated a couple to be used in the tests. One library was from several years ago (very much earlier version of FCP) and the other was 10.6.10.

I opened both libraries on both machines, played back the timelines and did a bit of colour correcting.

No problems whatsoever, so it appears that any crashing is due to peculiarities with the workflow or setup of particular individuals.

I have not tested with Sonoma.

One other proviso . . . my tests were perfunctory, just a couple of minutes. I don't know whether sustained editing would have provoked a crash.

Just verified this DOES exist on my iMac Pro, but the issue does NOT exist on my M1 MBP.

I was getting this same thing simply selecting the Color icon at the top of the Inspector pain, simple as that. I could not access any color tools. Then I deleted permissions.

Then I could access the Color inspector tab, except...

click the color picker in the Color Curves inspector, BANG, GONE, CRASH!

I have tried to replicate my crash which occurred without touching the Color Curves picker but I can't.
The "project" was tiny at 18 seconds so maybe that was why it was OK?

I think "Untitled Project 1", which did not crash even when the color picker was activated, is a newly created project (04/12/2023, 5:09 pm) with FCP10.7. In my case, after updating a project created in 10.6.10 to 10.7, it crashed when I clicked on the color inspector icon.

If possible, could you please run the same test on a copy of the above project (10/10/2023, 9:55 am) created with an older version?

Tried again with a three year old project/library and it did crash!

I tried it again on a different project within the same library and within seconds of clicking the picker it crashed.

However, when I tried a third project in that library it refused to crash.

So it appears that it all depends on the project and the crashing is there but a bit hit and miss.
