How do I permanently stop split screen. It is driving me mad. I am 81 years old and cannot remember what to do each time it happens.

How do I permanently stop split screen. It is driving me mad. I am 81 years old and cannot remember what to do each time it happens.

Key to accessing and controlling (or avoiding) multi-tasking is the small “three-dot” button that is found at the top-centre edge of each App Window. Tap the multitasking button at the top of the slide-over window to expose a menu - from which you can change the window view.
Unlike iPadOS14 and earlier versions, iPadOS 15/16 does not allow multi-tasking (including split-screen and slide-over views) to be disabled from settings. However, if your iPad is capable of update to iPadOS 17, multi-tasking can again be disabled.
iPadOS 17.x
Settings > Multitasking & Gestures > [Multitasking] - select OFF
(*) The iPad Air2 is capable of update to iPadOS 15.8; this model does not support iPadOS 16 or later
