Not receiving haptic notification for Messages or Phone after 10.1.1 update, please help! (Receive for others)

I purchased an Apple Watch, series 9 this week. Got home and installed update (10.1.1) right away - haptics no longer work. Contacted Apple. Was on the phone for over an hour. Was told that watch needed to be replaced. Went to the Apple Store. They replaced my watch. Set it up at Apple to be sure haptics were working. When I set the watch up from a backup I received no haptics. So we unpaired and started over, setting up as a new watch. Tada, haptics worked. Got home, installed update and no more haptics (for messages, phone) - haptics work for various other things, but the two I really need it to work for is messages and phone... so back to square one. I would say it's not the watch, it's the update.

I think I found a workaround for this. On the iphone go to the Watch app and My Watch. Go to messages. Instead of “mirror my iPhone,” tap “custom.” And then toggle the button to green on “haptic.” Then I turned off my phone, turned off my watch. Then turned the phone and watch back on. For the first time in weeks, I’m getting the haptic tap for message notifications. Yay.

They spent a lot of time, checked every single setting (was there 2 hours) on watch and phone. No settings were incorrect, Messages should have received notification sound/haptic/both depending upon settings. So they thought it must be my phone. Reset all settings and retested everything. Didn't work. Swiped my phone so it's like new 😩 and it still didn't work. Now I need to reset all settings, add back apps, email addresses, etc. They said to take it home and keep trying for a while, if an update doesn't come through that fixes soon, they can send off (oh nooooo) and have others look at it and try to determine. But, not sure how without my phone? Am close to returning it getting over my reliance in the watch. All very nice. But am so frustrated. Am also in touch with Apple Support, a great man who's helping to figure this out. Meet with him again on Thursday. I wish I had better news for you.
