Can I turn off the power connected beep?

The beep that my Mac makes when I first plug it in continues to go off sporadically when I have it plugged in at my home office but not when it is plugged in at the bed room.

I would like to understand why this happening but I would also like to find a way to disable the beep on connection so that it no longer annoys me.

Any thoughts?

I also found documentation that said it was a feature so that you could tell if your computer was successfully plugged in. This makes sense to me but when paired with the power control features Apple has added it makes my Powerbook Pro ding frequently.

After more searching on the web I found the following command that can be entered into the Terminal App. It worked for me:

defaults write com.apple.PowerChime ChimeOnNoHardware -bool true;killall PowerChime

You can also enter the following to turn the chime back on:

defaults write com.apple.PowerChime ChimeOnAllHardware -bool true; open /System/Library/CoreServices/PowerChime.app &

No. It is considered a feature.
