I am trying to transfer one playlist only from Itunes to an ipod but I am getting a second playlist with "Purchased" songs to transfer that I don't want to include. Is there any way to remove that from the transfer?

You should be able to achieve this by using Sync selected playlists, artists albums and genres.
Currently, you are either using Sync entire library, which will add all playlists to your iPod, or you are using Sync selected playlists, artists, albums and genres but you have included your Purchased playlist as well.
With the iPod connected to your iTunes, click on the device icon at the top of your iTunes window:
Thank you so much for the quick and detailed response. However, I went back and looked again and my Purchased list is not checked. But when I looked at the contents of the Purchased folder that transferred to the iPod, I see it is not the full list but only those songs that were moved to the other play list. In other words, I guess I don't have a problem but I've done single playlist transfers before and don't remember this ever happening. Again, thank you though for confirming the process.
