Time Machine backups are RED

Everything seemed fine for a while until the partition seemed full and time machine would never complete a back up for days, so I went and got another external hard drive with plenty of space and back up at it, formatted it, and finally completed Time Machine back up but all of the dates and times are red on the right and restore button is not highlighted thusly not an option

Can only browse Time machine backups when selecting "other backup disks" and cannot delete backups Since updating to Ventura, I am unable to browse Time Machine backups normally. I can see the time line on the right going back to 2019 when I started the backup, but nothing happens when I choose a date on the timeline. Similarly nothing happens when I click on the arrows next to the finder window in Time Machine (and all the stacked windows are greyed out) HOWEVER: (1) if I hold the alt key and choose the (same) Time Machine backup disk then I can navigate back all the way though the backups right to 2019. But there is another problem: (2) if I right click on any file or folder, I used to be able to delete all backups of that specific file or folder. This was useful to create more space on the drive. But now I do not got get the option to delete, only to restore. I have tried this on many many backups going way back so I know these aren't just snapshots. The drive is formatted to Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Can anyone please help ideally with both issues, though (2) is a lot more important than (1) which just seems to be an annoying workaround having to select the drive every time I want to browse backups. Time Machine options are greyed out I keep regular time machine back ups and I accidentally deleted a bunch of files I need, so I opened the Time Machine to try to ”go back in time“ BUT ALL THE OPTIONS ARE GRAYED OUT! So I come to the forum and look through all these messages and everybody saying “Duh, you need to hold command plus R and restore from time machine that way“ OK, if that’s the case, why doesn’t it tell me that when I launch Time Machine? What’s the point of even being able to launch Time Machine while logged in?!?!? So anyway, I do all that and go through the process of selecting the date I want to restore from, only for my Mac to tell me “You must use migration assistant to transfer data from this backup“. OH REALLY NOW? OK now I’m getting annoyed… FIRST OF ALL: I’m not trying to “transfer data from this back up“ I’m trying to GO BACK IN TIME. In other words, I want to undo the last day of changes that I made. Which is what I THOUGHT Time Machine did (at least that’s what they advertise it to do.) I’m not interested in dragging and dropping individual files, I want to restore it to a previous state in the past. Am I in the wrong place? How in the world do I do this?

Time machine never completes backup P. Phillips, I read your post with interest as I have been experiencing ™ backup issues since I recently upgraded to Ventura. My original ™ external drive had worked with no issues. I thought I might as well reformat it and start with a fresh ™ backup for Ventura. Same issue, days and days of backing up with no end in sight. I started backing up to a fresh drive I know had no problems. Same issue days and days of backing up with no end in sight. Looking at the new ™ backup drive has an unfamiliar look to the files. Seems like on a daily basis it is trying to back up my whole drive?? I have taken some screenshots to see if you might be able to provide me with some direction, if so I appreciate it.
