Issues with external drives and macOs Sonoma


Anyone have to same problem after upgrade to Mac OS 14, it didn't fix the error even 14.1.1


I have changed many folder like folder 1 with a picture icon inside the external HDD,


but all of them shown as folder 2 after upgrade to Mac OS14.


The picture icon was gone and I can't place a new picture icon on the exisiting one too.


Anyone know how to fix this issue? Called Apple they can't help, it's fustrated !!

You have neglected to include some very important details such as the file system(s) used on the external drives which have this issue. I'm assuming they are using exFAT or FAT32 file systems. If so, continue reading.....


Apple changed the exFAT and FAT (ms-dos) driver from a Kernel driver to a user space driver so it seems it is still a work in progress, or maybe this is the new normal.

Hi Team


There is a wider issue here.


Drive/card formatted to exFAT works fine in the finder.


Drive/card formatted to FAT32 (probably the widest used format globally) does not appear in the finder.


It's hard to believe that Apple are pulling up the drawbridge on the rest of the world so I think this is something that's been left out by mistake.
