Can't Record Voiceover on Final Cut Pro

Tried to record voiceover on my timeline in FCPX, and the result is silence.

The recorder window with options does come up, I hit record, countdown happens, I speak, an audio slot appears in the timeline as I speak, but the result is silence in that audio clip. Nothing.

I have microphone set to monitor, as I always have.

It does work, as I use it in other applications.

I reset the FCP's preferences by launching the app with Option & Command pressed, and was given the window to affirm that I wanted to reset the preferences. Final result is the the silence when recording audio in FCP is still a problem.

I did a work-around by recording in Quicktime (no problem), saved the audio clip to my desktop, and drug the audio file into my FCP timeline. That worked fine.

But, FCPX then has a bug.

If anyone who has had this problem found a solution, let me know here.
