Spyware on iPhone XR

im pretty sure my friends have access to my phone after downloading spyware to it, are you able to determine for me if my iPhone XR has spyware on it and possibly trace the spyware back to the person(s) spying?

iPhone XR, iOS 16

No. We are users of this forum just like you are. Apple is not going to be able to do this for you either.

How do you know that there is spyware software downloaded on your iPhone? Can you provide some examples of why you feel that you have spyware software on your iPhone?

Furthermore, I recommend that you change the password to your Apple ID in the event that your Apple ID and Password have been compromised. On your iPhone, open Settings ➡️ Apple ID (Your Name at Top) ➡️ Sign-in & Security ➡️ Change Password.

Do they know your PassCode?

Do they know your Apple ID Password?

Have they had access to your phone after you have unlocked it?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, then that is a problem and changing your Passcode and Password is essential. If you answered no to all of those questions, then there is no chance that anything has been installed on your device.

As TheLittles pointed out, the factory reset is the way to go to be sure nothing nefarious is on your phone if you did answer yes to any of those questions. Be aware if you restore your phone from a backup after resetting, you will be loading everything back to where it was before you reset it including any apps that may have been downloaded.

You can also use Safety Check to make sure you are not sharing information to someone you are not aware of and verify no one else is logged into your account.

About am iPhone with Spyware:

Unfortunately, there is no way to determine if it has been hacked, unless you know that it has been jailbroken. The only way for an iPhone to have hacked is if it has been jail broken.

Restore to Factory Settings:

If you are so concerned, then restore you iPhone to factory settings, as if you were to sell it. Go here: What to do Before you Sell, Give Away, or Trade in your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support. Perform as instructed there, including the backup creation and iCloud logout.
