Unwanted secondary number on iPhone

Hello, I have a new iPhone. It has two phone numbers - one "secondary" and one "cellular data". it defaults to the "secondary" number whenever I try to initiate a call. That number is now inactive, and the calls fail. How can I delete that number from the phone? Thank you !

I assume this is an additional sim or eSIM. If for any reason you think you may ever reactivate that secondary line in the future you may not want to delete the sim for it but can adjust settings so that you won’t have any issues you’re describing.

in settings go to Cellular. You should be able to see both accounts. Go to the one you don’t want active and toggle off Turn on This Line.

Your footer here shows a Mac, and those don’t currently have SIMs or eSIMs.

Depending on the iPhone model and where it was originally sold, an iPhone can have one physical SIM module and zero or more eSIM slots, or can have two physical SIM modules in a few places and cases, or can have two or more eSIM slots and no SIM module.

Here is how dual-SIM and SIM-with-eSIM iPhone models work:

Here is how to erase an eSIM:

If it’s a SIM module that is no longer required, remove the SIM card:
