Using an old iMac as a digital photo frame

I have a 2017 3.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 iMac that can't be traded in at Apple, though Apple will recycle it.

I would like to repurpose it as a digital photo frame. (Example: an alternative to a Nixplay device.)

Everything that I've seen online is either old or not relevant. (I'm creating this conversation topic in December 2023.)

You can do that with Photos. Create an album with the photos you want to have in the slideshow. Select the album (or select the entire library) and create a slideshow. You can have music or not and different themes. It plays full screen and you can set it to repeat endlessly.

Or create the slideshow in Keynote.

Thank you for responding, Yer_Man.

Digital photo frames--like Nixplay and Aura--are built for that purpose and have software that is designed for that purpose. In contrast, iMacs are computers.

If you are aware of software or an app that can turn an iMac into a dedicated digital photo frame--like one from Nixplay or Aura or something better than them--then please share it.
