bought a new iwatch for my bday. Have never been able to get it to sync. I miss and want to be able to get text on watch. What can I do to get it to sync and why won't it?

What model iPhone? What iOS version is on it? Is your tag correct that you have a series 8 watch with watchOS 9 on it?
