Occasional screen flickering

Hi all!

I have a Mac mini M1 connected to a Dell U2722D via HDMI since December 2021. I'm running Monterey. Since the monitor did not come with a cable, I bought one from Amazon (Snowkids HDMI Cable 2.0 4K). It works fine and the panel is in mint conditions.

Recently (occasionally), if I leave the monitor untouched for some time, I notice the top right part of the screen flickering. Today, instead, I saw the whole display with slight grey horizontal lines. I ran the Dell's LCD conditioning and saw no defect at all. This test, by the way, always fixes such issues.

Could the cable be or is Apple's HDMI implementation at fault here? Dell told me HDMI on macOS is not compatible and suggested to use USB-C instead (weird answer...). Any hints or help would be appreciated.

Well over 10 years ago my 2008 iMac had various screen "problems" and I am fairly sure one of them was horizontal grey lines showing up.

I think I did the usual troubleshooting things such as shutting down the iMac, unplugging it and holding down the start button for several seconds whilst it was unplugged.

Anyway, whatever was causing the problem eventually went away and the computer is still going strong in the hands of my wife.

Monitors and HDMI cables work perfectly on the M series Mac minis and I have always used (for over a decade) the cheapest ones I could find on Amazon or eBay with no problems whatever.
