Why isn’t my USB-C Apple Pencil connecting to my new 10th generation iPad?

I plug in the Apple Pencil via the cord given in iPad box but it shows no sign of pairing and still doesn’t work.

I am unable to connect my Apple Pencil with my iPad 10th Generation When I plug the first generation pencil to a brand new 10th generation iPad, nothing occurs. Apple pencil will not pair with Ipad I am trying to connect my new Apple Pencil 1st gen to my iPad 9th gen. The website says that they are compatible but I can not get them to pair. I have connected the two with the adapter and no pair request appears. I have turned the iPad off and on again, but there is still nothing. The Pencil doesn't even appear in the Bluetooth options for me to reset it. It is like my iPad doesn't even recognize there is anything attached to it. Am I doing something wrong, Is the Apple site wrong about about compatibility, or is my Apple Pencil broken?

To use a USB-C Pencil, your iPad10 must be updated to iPadOS 17.1 or later.
