Do I leave my external drive plugged in all the time

Is it ok to just leave it plugged in ? Also does it have to be direct to MacBook Air or can I go thru dock ?

Here's my 2 cents:


  1. You could leave it plugged, no harm. It's just that you need to be sure to eject it once you are done. It's better to leave it plugged in in case you are going back and forth in terms of accessing files from and storing files to the external drive.
  2. It could be plugged in either directly or thru a dock. Direct is best in terms of principle. But if you don't have enough ports, then the dock comes in handy. With SSDs and fast speeds, either should be fine.
