Search feature not working on my Mac

Whenever I try to search for something on my desktop, no files are accessed. First, I tried searching my calendar for an event, results yielded nothing. So, I tried searching using Spotlight, nothing. This may be as a result of the most recent update. My system is running Sonoma 14.1.2. How do I get this feature working again?

iMac, OS X 10.11

First shut down. Then boot up in safe mode.

Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support

After this finishes, you should see in red letters Safe Boot on your screen. Then shut down. Then start normally and enter this command in Terminal:

sudo mdutil -E /

This makes the search index repopulate (index). This can take a while, many minutes, if your drive is large. Open Spotlight and you may see "indexing" indicated. Report back on success or not.
