I want to gift a MacOS app to my friend but I can't find a way to do it. There no option in the Share button to do it. There's no menu next to the price (like in the iOS App Store) because I already bought it for myself.
How can gift it to my friend?

Users have never been able to gift apps or games from the Mac App Store.
You could email the friend a gift card in the amount they would need to buy the app.

That’s incorrect. At one time you could gift apps out of the App Store. It was a drop down menu pull next to the purchase button.
Best I can recall, when it it moved to the share menu in the iOS stores, it seems to have disappeared from the Mac App Store.

Yes, it works. I tapped the Share icon to the right of an app's price button. Then a pop-up appears with the choices to Copy Link, or Gift App.
I didn't go any further than that since I didn't actually want to purchase or gift anything. But the option is there on my iPhone and iPad. From what I see, it can't be done from a Mac.
Major point though is it only works with an item that has a price. Free apps, or any app with a Get button with in-app purchases cannot be gifted.
Kurt, the OP asked how to gift apps from the Mac App Store, NOT how to gift iOS apps.
Some iOS/iPadOS apps will work on an Apple Silicon Mac, but not all and there is no guarantee. I know from experience, that most iOS/iPadOS apps on my M1 Mac leave much to be desired.

BTW, there is no reason to "gift" a free app.
