Pages deleting words when backspace is pressed

This wasn’t happening before … it only seems to happen on my Magic Keyboard - haven’t done it with the on-screen keyboard.

When typing in Pages, and wanting to go back a space, I hit backspace, but instead of just a space back, the last word is highlighted, and then deleted when something is pressed, cannot add a comma or another letter etc. This is very inconvenient; time consuming and annoying. Please fix.

I have removed the Autocorrect, but that only fixes it sometimes …

That is a question I cannot answer. I have no means to test it. And since these are fellow user supported communities, and the Apple product teams do not participate here, that may be a question that only they could, but cannot answer here.

Click the ⋯⃝ menu and select Help > Provide Feedback. That goes directly to the Pages for iPadOS product team. Ask your question there, and if you are living right, you may get an email from the product team eventually, or more likely silence.

I’ve been using Pages predominantly on my iPhone and iPad, and I can confirm this also happens on mobile devices. If you’re one space ahead of the last word behind your cursor and hit backspace, the word will be highlighted orange and get automatically erased if you hit space. You might also see a tag before the word is erased (e.g. it could say ‘extra’ for ‘extraction’).

For now, I turned off Check Spelling in settings. It doesn’t sound like it will work but frankly, I don’t know how else to deal with it except send frantic messages to support.

The question is whether you want to remove a preceding space (delete key) or non-destructive navigation, in which you should be using the left arrow key. Once something is selected in Pages, the next keystroke will delete it whether on a Mac or an iPad.

I do not have a magic keyboard for my older iPad 5th Gen running iPadOS 16.7.2 and Pages for iPadOS v13.2.

Turning off autocorrect works! But it turns off autocorrect on the keyboard universally, which, if you’re on a phone, makes it harder to type regular things (text messages, social media, etc). I’d switch to notes but I like that pages automatically updates on my MacBook. There’s no winning unless they fix it. I don’t know why they added it in the first place

I agree, this is a new issue and is so frustrating with doing my work! Is really adding time onto everything I am doing. It really gets frustration when you select a word to save typing and just need to add an s. Example: auto word selected... material - needed to be materials. Took me several times to get it to not erase this word just to add a S for an invoice for my client.

I also wish Apple would make this a smarter word processor. I will cut and paste a prepared email into Google which is so good at finding little mistakes that Apple seems to have no clue how to recognize. Now I almost alway cutting and paste into my gmail to see if everything is correct before I send a pages document. I would almost consider not using if it was not for the ability of ease to add pictures wherever I like in a document for my design business.

Please make this an urgent fix and update.
