After importing an epub book into Apple Books, will it take 2x space on iCloud?

Hello,

Sorry for the stupid question, but I'm new to Apple. I have a lot of epub books that I purchased from a third party (local stores). I maintained a library of these books on google drive where my wife could also access the books. Now I would like to upload this library to iCloud. My question is whether after importing the book into Apple Books, the book will take up 2x more space from iCloud (i.e. once as an epub file on the iCloud drive and the second time in the Apple Books reader, and if the same book is also put in the reader by the wife, the book will take up 3x more space ) or is it counted only once?

We have family sharing turned on.
