Personally I would avoid HP at all costs. While they had good printers over a decade ago, their quality has really suffered, plus HP as a company has been playing games with users by changing the behavior of the printer in negative ways after purchase...such as not allowing third party ink, or may be not allowing the built-in scanner to work if one of the ink is low.

I've been using & recommending Brother Laser printers ever since. They have been doing a great job. Plus Brother printers seem to share the same toner cartridge among multiple models unlike HP who seems to have a unique toner cartridge for different models.

I’m assuming you are asking for suggestions to a B&W laser printer for a new Mac. Any current printer will work, hP had good luck with Brother lasers. HP, Canon, Lexmark etc all have decent printers too.

I too have had very good performance with my Brother laser printers. Never a problem and interestingly, I never have to update the driver when an OS is upgraded. I might have to reenter the printer, but that's all.
