I want to pair my AirPods with only 1 device. Is this possible?

Me and my mom share the same iCloud account. We do this to reduce costs and use Notes for business and grocery lists, etc. However, we both have AirPods. Apple has had this brilliant idea of syncing all bluetooth devices across all devices signed into the same iCloud account. This sounds great in theory, until you want to only pair 1 AirPods to 1 device. Is it possible to delete the bluetooth connections from specific devices?

No, as long as your AirPods are connected to the same Apple ID, removing them from one device will also remove them from the other device.

You should create a separate Apple ID and use Family Sharing to be able to share apps, iCloud Storage and other content from Apple:

Apple - iCloud - Family Sharing

To use your AirPods only on one device, tap on the " i " next to the AirPods in the Bluetooth settings on each iPhone and select the option to connect to this device if "last connected", instead of "Automatically"

This is a poor design. Apple apparently thought this was great to connect to the first available device. Instead of going to each device to turn off automatically connect wouldn’t it make more sense to have the option to connect only to this device? Please tell me where I can do this as it is embarrassing to accidentally connect to another family member’s device who is not a part of my family sharing.

The only way your AirPods would connect to another device is if the device is using the same Apple ID. Apple IDs should only be used by one person. They should not be shared. So, the solution might be to use Apple IDs they way the are intended to be used.

Also, Apple doesn't read here in this user-to-user forum for feedback or suggestions. You can, however, let them know your thoughts here:

Sharing an Apple ID is generally a bad idea. I'm not sure how it helps you reduce costs. And, you can share notes without having the same Apple ID.

You may also find that, if you're both using iPhones, your call logs and voicemails will be merged. Among other things that can go wrong.
