Just purchased iTunes Match, I have a few questions

Just purchased an iTunes Match subscription.

I have a collection of about 40.000 tracks, which consists of:

many CD's (huge own collection)
many mixes and remixes (own creation)
many purchases on bandcamp (not available on apple music)
own music and creations
Lots of free tracks and albums (not available on apple music)

As I have many tracks and albums not available on Apple music, it was the best choice to take an iTunes Match subscription.

I suppose it will take some time to analyse, upload and match my collection. Any idea how long this could take.

It has now been busy for approximately 24h. Can I shut down the iMac and let it continue de next day, or is it better to let him run through it.

It might be better to let the app continue processing if it is actively matching and uploading files. There should be an activity widget somewhere that indicates this. Otherwise the process should resume next time you launch the app. You can also use File > Library > Update Library to refresh things.

Use the Songs view of your library and enable the cloud status columns. You want to ensure that all of your music shows as either purchased, matched, or uploaded.

Wait till process completes. Tag changes may no stick on tracks with waiting status.

Hi,

It will take time to match your library. Can’t really say how long it will take. Music that is commercially available should match quickly. However, other music will be uploaded and this could take some time, depending on size and file type. MP3s uploaded as is but aiff or ALAC will be transcoded to 256 Kbps AAC.

You original library will not be changed unless you opt to remove original and re-download from iCloud music library. Keep a separate backup.

Another question about this process. Can I make changes to the metatags of several albums, while it is uploading. I saw some albums with some tagging mistakes, would like to modify them, but something tells me I should wait till the whole process is done.

Thanks for the info. I already saw the info panel. But kept unchanged for more than 24h. It finally started uploading my tracks. also made several smartlist to see what upped or matched.

Indeed, it took some time. It is finally uploading my tracks. Most of my tracks are ALAC files. I do have backups.
