adding yourself to invites

I am trying to add myself to my iCal (Calendar) invites so that the invite gets picked up by my personal/work calendar (which then syncs with Outlook) and remains on our family calendar so it is visible to the family (i.e. Dad is going to be at X meeting at this time; which also blocks the time on my personal/work calendar). whether I select it as my yahoo calendar to invite or my family calendar, both use the same email address, so the Calendar app is not letting me invite myself (my email address). How do I get around this?

I haven't evaluated all the ramifications of this solution I just experimented, see if it suits you.

Create another yahoo account that you may name something like invitations@yahoo.com (probably taken already).

When you create an invitation, invite that account, so the event will stay in your calendar.

In Yahoo!'s webmail, set a filter to send all messages received from sender noreply@email.apple.com to the trash. They are automatically removed after 7 days.
