Beats Studio Buds don't play out of both buds at the same time?

We started traveling and watching movies on my iPad Pro while flying. We wanted noise canceling headsets to muffle out the plane engines. We bought 2 pairs of the Beats Studio Buds. Open the case and it connected to the iPad. Open the second and it connected as well. I was able to open the setting on each and change the bud button to control the volume. Everything seems to work fine EXCEPT allowing both to listen at the same time. If one is working and you push the ear bud button on the second the first will set will stop and the second set will start playing. I thought these buds would allow two people to listen at the same time. Is there something else we need to do? Appreciate the help...
