Email badge notifications not showing

the email badge notifications for new emails is not showing so I can’t see if there are any new emails unless I open the app and check the inbox. It used to work fine but now doesn’t work. I also use outlook for my work emails and the badge notifications on that app also stopped working. I have checked the notification settings and they are all set to on. I have tried force restarting my phone and resetting all settings but nothing works. How do I get the notifications to show again. It is extremely annoying when I am working and can’t see when an email comes in.
