my Mac is using OS X 10.11 and won't give me an option to update to anything remotely current.

I can't open most websites, even if I trust them. My Mac is old, but has plenty of space on it. I would just like to get it updated. I'd like to be able to do a lot that it's not allowing me to do.

Once you upgrade to High Sierra, you may want to install another Web browser.

Firefox 115 ESR is no longer getting new features, but Mozilla says they will provide "critical security updates" for it until September 2024. It's newer than the version of Safari in High Sierra, which means that it might let you access Web sites that either don't display correctly in Safari or that don't like Safari for security ("too old") reasons.
