Finding Own Posts

Is there a reason it is almost impossible to find one's own posts in the Community forums? I log in, and cannot find recent posts. Literally a post (a reply) I made today! I search my username. Nothing. I look at Subscriptions, but that is useless information. No links to click or follow. Why does Apple hide my own posts from me?

That’s correct; it can be surprisingly difficult to find your own posts around here.

The “subscription” mechanism mentioned in the replies above sorta-kinda works, but sorta-kinda doesn’t work when you subscribe to multiple communities or busier communities or to busier posters.

Since you haven’t subscribed to anything or anyone else—this based on replies above—your postings are the only ones shown in the subscription list. So that works, for this case.

If you do start subscribing to communities or other posters, then knowing some words from the posting of yours you’re seeking, search for those words with a filter of your nickname using the built-in search function in the upper right corner.

But… The fastest way is using either Google or DuckDuckGo search syntax:

site:discussions.apple.com +xhat1964

This search is (with DuckDuckGo) wicked fast, and quickly finds your existing topics. It does take a little time for new postings around here to get into the Google and DDG search indexes, of course.

Yeah. Sorta-kinda. What the filters don’t tell you is that, for instance, you can’t ever unsubscribe to a thread that you’ve replied to. If you ever reply to a thread that becomes unusually popular, you’ll never get rid of it from your subscriptions, and it’ll pop to the top in bold, for instance. There are other wrinkles. I bookmark the Apple URLs to get at that stuff directly, but it’s often still easier and faster to use DDG.

The whole subscribe mechanism is fundamentally broken. It’s both things you want to follow, and also a list of things you are obligated to follow. And it looks like the unread filter disappeared in some update. There’s no easy way to use it as both as a “topics I’m interested in” and as “things I’ve replied to and want to check for replies” with no “nope, unfollow that thread” mechanism.

Click on your avatar at the top right of the screen, or in a page such as this one where it and your user name is above the text of a post. In the page that is produced you will see My Subscriptions. This is a list of your posts.

Actually, the default subscriptions tab creates a combo list that includes your recent posts, in addition to any threads you’ve manually followed (by selecting the little bell icon), plus every thread created in every community or by any user that you follow, etc.

For anyone that discovers that their default list is a bit unwieldy, you can select the ‘Filter’ icon (top left) to open a hidden menu with additional options to refine your cumulative list of subscriptions.

For example, to find your contributions, select ‘Authored’ for threads you initiated or ‘Participated’ to find threads where you’ve posted a reply.
