macOS ventura - internet intermitten outages

I upgraded from macOS Monterey 12.7 to macOS Ventura 13.6. No issues in Monterey but issues in Ventura.

Issue: Internet connection stops working randomly but then after some time it starts working again. Both wifi and wired.

When issue occurs.

Troubleshooting

  • Ran Disk utility - didn't fix it.
  • Re-ran Ventura installer - didn't fix it.
  • Rebooted - still issue
  • Network settings in system settings shows connected.
  • Verified internet isn't the issue.
    • Tested network connection with multiple computers, no issue.
  • Tired wired and wireless
  • Removed network settings by removing /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
    • deleted: com.apple.wifi.message-tracer.plist NetworkInterfaces.plist com.apple.airport.preferences.plist com.apple.network.eapolclient.configuration.plist preferences.plist
  • when issue occurred logged into another account on computer system still an issue.
  • Successfully able to Apple Remote Desktop share with another computer on the network.
  • Also, safari takes longer to return to service in comparison to Firefox.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi

Check a few settings first

Go to system settings > network > look for filter or VPN, do you see anything?

Go to terminal app > type : ping 1.1.1.1

let it run for 1 minute then press CTRL +C to end - you will see a percentage of packet loss, if anything other than 0.0% report it here

Do this issue happen in other user account? if none then create one and test for awhile

Yes I do see some filters but even when I turn them off the issue still persists. The strange thing is that eventually the system works fine but on the initial bootup this occurs. I even change the ethernet adapter which seemed to resolve the issue but when I go back to the older ethernet adapter. The issue remains resolved.

So I feel this is definitely some Monterey to Ventura upgrade issues. I also did it another system from macOS 12.7 to 13.6.3 it was even worse. On wifi pages would not load unless reloaded 3 times. Downloads moved fast then stopped and look like they were downloading but they weren't for over 10 minutes on a 129MB file.

I just had to revert it back to 12.7 then 12.7.4 and no issues.

Little snitch but when this issue occurs I disable it, the issue persists. Also, I did upgrade to the latest.

>Go to terminal app > type : ping 1.1.1.1

  • Will do next Time and report.

>Do this issue happen in other user account? if none then create one and test for awhile

  • yes the new account also had this issue.

+: issue still persists.

Also,

  • reinstalled using USB installed macOS 13.6
    • issue persists.
    • Did however, used migration assistant to bring everything back from time machine except network.
    • In recovery mode
      • reinstalled a new copy of macOS "Install a new copy of macOS Ventura onto your Mac."

+ additional observations:

  • when this occurs safari remains continuously trying to load the web page. No timeouts or anything. The only time it starts working finally when I use another browser. Then safari starts to finally work.

Some update:

The strange thing is this.

  • I can consistently reproduce the issue when I restart the computer and try to go open a browser, and it takes awhile.
    • The standard web pages do not load up. (cnn.com, amazon.com, reddit.com)
    • Safari, does this.
    • If I use another browser (chrome, Firefox, brave) then eventually it loads up. If don't do this safari will never work.
    • When it starts to work. I doesn't work like at 100% there are still lags for the page to fully load, missing content link images or videos not playing.
    • After like a few minutes or so, all browsers start working as expected.
    • It's not my internet. Since I used another computer with the same test and they load faster with no delays.
    • however, if I remote desktop to my other computer on the network they all are able to connect. So network is working.

Thanks for the response.

Regarding your questions:

>Go to system settings > network > look for filter or VPN, do you see anything?

Yes, have some filters but no VPN settings there. I'd assume it's the filters but I have disabled them when this issue is happening and it still happens.

>Go to terminal app > type : ping 1.1.1.1

all packets are received 0.0% loss

>Do this issue happen in other user account? if none then create one and test for awhile

I did already create another account and it's happen in that also.
