You can AirDrop pictures between devices.

Most of us use iCloud to keep the pictures in sync with our phones and iPads (and Macs.) When you connect an iPhone to iCloud Photos, the pictures are automatically uploaded to iCloud, and then they are automatically downloaded to the iPad. When you take a new picture on the iPhone, it will appear on the iPad (and at iCloud.com--which is available from any computer.) When you delete a picture on the iPad, it gets deleted (to the Recently Deleted album) on all the devices. Pretty slick. 5GB is free (that's several hundred pictures, depending on settings); 200GB is $3/month.
