FCPX occasionally becomes unresponsive switching between timelines

I've seen this issue for a while throughout many versions. FCP becomes unresponsive when I use the backward arrow (above the timeline) to switch to a previous timeline I was editing. When this happens, there is no beachball or other indicator of a stall. Instead, the program doesn't respond to any clicks or keypresses and a force quit becomes necessary. This occurrence happens randomly, and I haven't come up with a recipe to reliably duplicate it. Has anyone else experienced this?

Have you tried resetting FCP preferences? Whenever FCP crashes, is Force Quit, or starts acting strangely an easy thing to try is deleting FCP preferences. Hold Option and Command while launching FCP and choose Delete Preferences. It will open the default Untitled library. Re-open the library you were working on, set the Preferences back to the way you like them (disable background rendering, reset Import to Leave Files in Place, etc.) and see if the issue has been resolved.
