Reset End to End Encryption Without Another Device
I am on a MacBook Pro (2019) using MacOS Ventura.
I am stuck in an iCloud loop. I need to update my Apple ID settings. When I do this, I am asked for my iCloud backup code, which I don't remember. I don't really care about the iCloud backup, so I am fine discarding it. When I click "forgot code" I am given the option to use another device. (sidebar, I don't have another device and have gone to iCloud on the web to remove all devices except the MacBook Pro I am trying to update). After clicking "use other device" I am told to go to one of my other devices (spoiler - I don't have another device). So I click "can't approve" and I am told I need to reset end to end encryption. My only option is to cancel. When I go to iCloud settings/iCloud/Advanced Data Protection I am told I need to update my Apple ID settings to I can use end to end encryption. At this point, we go back to the start of this paragraph.
I have found another user with a very good description of the exact same problem: Cannot reset end-to-end encrypted data to… - Apple Community. That user's question is unanswered. Are there any other solutions? I have searched all over and can not find a solution. Is my Apple ID useless from now on?
