External hard drive is formatted in "case sensitive"

I'm using the drive as my startup drive and now my time machine will not backup the drive.. How do I get the drive out of case sensitive??????


This is on an iMac 2019 21.5 with a new 2T external hard drive..I just installed the external drive.

iMac 21.5″, macOS 14.1

Hey there!


Unfortunately, to change the format, you'd need to erase the disk and choose "APFS" rather than "APFS Case-Sensititve". However, doing so will destroy all data. Do you have a backup of the data on the volume?

OK Thank You.. I don't really have any data on the drive. This I Mac has a defective internal hard drive. I have added the the 2T and downloaded the operating system. I had two problems the Time Machine backup and a Migration issue. So the only data I will lose is this conversation I think..

BTW this machine went from a clunker to a blazing fast computer with the addition of the external drive..
