So it can’t be done with an Apple Pencil but my 2$ gas station stylus can do it….. huh…. Odd….
Absolutely correct.
Your $2 "gas station stylus" is passive - and is electrically nothing more than an extension of your fingertip. By contrast, an Apple Pencil is active and can only interact with the visible/active area of the iPad screen.
The "home" gesture is performed with a finger - and begins outside of the area with which the Pencil can be sensed by the screen.

509Wiz, create a new shortcut called Go To Home Screen. Then add the action called “Go To Home Screen”
You could always add assistive touch and it would be just as easy
I really can’t believe there’s no gesture and no custom button mapping, which would enable that. I’m personally done with Apple. Their products are missing the visionary spirit, the UX is dated, the hardware is overpriced and they don’t care about customer feedback. This ****** pen went into the garbage bin once I noticed that Apple does dot support a home swipe btw. It’s probably my last Apple product and my last iPad … and I joined the club with Gen1 of the iPad, when it was still very controversially discussed.
create a new shortcut called Go To Home Screen. Then add the action called “Go To Home Screen”
then in settings for the apple pencil, set the "squeeze" option (only available with the Pencil pro, I think) to the shortcut you just made.
This is for Apple Pencil Pro only.
Let me know if any of that is unclear.
two different technologies. The $2 stylus simply replicates a finger, and just as accurate and limited as a finger. The Apple Pencil is more for drawing and has a different feature set than a finger.
The $4/gallon gas at the gas station can power your car, but the $100 bottle of scotch at the liquor store cannot. Different stuff.
I’m not sure your point…?
If you are trying to say that Apple Pencil is too smart to have absolutely no way in which to perform a home action of some sort… than I guess congrats… I choose to believe they could implement something. To each their own opinion. I’m simply pointing out the passive POS stylus can do it their 100$+ pencil should have a way. It’s that simple.
The Apple Pencil pro has a gesture (squeeze) that I set to a shortcut that displays that switches to the Home Screen. I realize that’s not the hardware you have, but it does show Apple is moving in the right direction.

Actually this was very helpful. I was not aware of this Apple Pencil pro feature. I'm actually ordering one right now. Thanks for this! 😊👍
If considering an Apple Pencil Pro, be aware that Pencil can only be used with the 2024 iPad Pro M4 and iPad Air M2 models.
Good luck with your Android tablet.
I have the Apple Pencil pro and wondering how to select the shortcut to go to Home Screen. Do you happen to have the name of it?

This works - thank you.
Could you tell me how you did this I’m trying to do it but I can’t figure it out
