Does Private Relay Still Have Problems With Certain Websites

I am thinking about subscribing to iCloud+ for extra cloud storage and see that Private Relay is also included. I have 2 questions:

  1. Is Private Relay as safe as a VPN? If so, I could cancel my VPN subscription (I have it thru Proton Mail).
  2. I understand Private Relay has had problems (crashing?) with some websites. Is it recommended to keep a VPN and wait for Private Relay to be fixed?
  3. Thanks very much for any info/advice. Regards, George

PS: I have a Macbook Air (M1), iPad (7th Gen) and and iPhone SE (2nd Gen)

iPhone SE, iOS 17

Private Relay is safer and more secure than VPN, because there is no “middleman” - that is, the VPN provider, who knows everything about your Internet usage.

I’ve never had a problem with Private Relay of any kind. Note when you set it up be sure to choose Maintain general location in the settings for IP Address location, because some secure sites know where you are supposed to be, and if your location is not near that it may interpret it as fraud.
