17.2 is out but it says the security updates only apply to XS and above? Why is my XR left out

About the security content of iOS 17.2 and iPadOS 17.2 - Apple Support I still got the update and I’m installing it but it says these security fixes only apply to XS and above (a year ago it would say XR and above) why have they stopped including my XR if it hasn’t been the end of 6 years yet? I know Apple doesnt have a "guarantee" but usually they do 5 years of updates, and 6 years of security fixes. AT LEAST (even the iphone 6s is still getting security fixes I think) Apple isnt exactly suffering for money right now, they just hit 3 trillion in market cap. Why would they drop critical security fixes for iPhone XR this early? Is it that they still provide fixes but not all of them? They just pick and choose what they want to fix on the XR or not, now?

And how many years of security fixes should I expect?

No fixed rules on that. Apple did offer a security update for the iPhone 5s and 6 (iOS 12) about a month ago. 5s was discontinued in March 2016. So, 7+ years on that one.

They just said they don't have a usual guarantee. Nice to see the quick replies; I didn't expect this forum to be more active than Reddit and other forums. I'll be using this as my main all-things Apple forum now haha . I guess I should ask now, does anyone expect iOS 18 on iPhone XR? And how many years of security fixes should I expect?

(i do agree the change in wording is weird)

The iPhone XR is newer than the iPhone XS.

I don’t know why they changed the wording, but the XR and XS came out at the same time, therefore they are both included in that “or later” statement.
