Problems with Pages not working

Since the last (most recent) update on my minimac home computer, I have not been able to access/use my Pages program. I only know how to use Pages on my home mini mac desktop. I am not tech savvy so this is a real problem for me. The coloured wheel just keeps turning & turning, then the entire screen freezes for so long that I have to force the program to quite.

My FB & Gmail are fine and I have not had any issues with either of them due to this latest update.

Can anyone help/guide me through what to do to fix this issue - in layman's words? I rely on this program and i am at a loss with out it. TIA

Mac mini, macOS 14.1

In the Finder Window sidebar, click on Applications, locate the Pages application, click once on it and press option+cmd+i to open a Get Info panel. What version of Pages do you have?

As profiles are rarely accurate, be explicit about the version of macOS you have running, not "latest." Currently, that would be macOS 14.2. You can see the version of the operating system from the Apple menu () : About This Mac panel.

If your version of Pages is too old, it will be incompatible with Sonoma (14.2) and fail. We can proceed after I get the answer to the first paragraph.

There should be an iCloud Drive folder in the iCloud category in the Finder sidebar. If not, you can visit Finder Settings : Sidebar and select it.

Without launching Pages, you can directly remove content from iCloud Drive to free up some storage. You may even see a Pages folder on iCloud Drive in which you can move the document that won't open in Pages to your Desktop where you can continue working on it in Pages.

Is Pages simply hung and not actually quit before attempting the shift-key/launch combination. That spinning beachball is an indication of resource contention. If this document is on iCloud Drive, are you out of strorage there, or attempting to open or save the document other than on your local drive (e.g. Desktop)?

Do you have any anti-virus or so-called Mac cleaner applications installed that may have removed part of the Pages application, or otherwise damaged the operating system?

Hi. Thanks for offering to help me. It took me awhile to (figure out how to) find your reply so I hope I can find you again once you reply to this message.

I found the version of macSO I have. Says I have Sonoma 14.1.2 . When I try to click the options button, (I am using a windows keyboard so I believe I press the Alt key) the program opens and the wheel starts turning and that's me done! No ability to do anything. The screen is locked on Image Styles and it won't let me exit or cancel or delete or even trash what I was trying to copy and paste. It's been spinning for over an hour now and i will once again force quit.

I can not find my version of Pages but I can tell you it is likely at least 6 or more years old (likely even older but not sure b/c my SIL installed it for me) He uses Windows and is not familiar with Mac's so doesn't know how to help me with this issue.

Everything worked great until the last update that I did. Usually with an update my ability to attach photos to FB or Messenger doesn't work. I have to wait till they do a "fix" update and in the meantime I need to do a work around. It happens a LOT. I was so thrilled that my photos would download for me to attach after this last update. Then this. lol

I am wondering if I should try to do another update and see if it corrects itself?? I think - but can't be sure - it was version 17???something. I really didn't pay attention but I will make notes going forward.

OR, is there somewhere/somehow I can get/buy/install a newer version of Pages to see if that is the problem?

I don't use it for anything other than basic tasks. Nothing fancy or unique. I cut & paste info/articles/photos from the internet as well as my own photos.

Sorry that's all the info I have for you. Thoughts?

No virus or anti-virus/cleaner apps. The content (article) was on the internet and I had wondered if it was way over my iCloud allowance but there were no notices saying this. However...I am getting a message on my email that tells me I am almost out of icloud storage. There were some photos that accompanied the article and I've never had a problem before but this could absolutely be the issue.

Now, my problem is how do I delete this article? As soon as I open the program the beachball starts spinning forever. A few times it has stopped but once i move the cursor it starts up again!! Only tried to copy & paste the article from the internet to Pages. IF you have some advice as to how to delete it that would be great and i will never do it again.

I realize just buying more storage spage might solve the problem but I do not use my computer enough to warrant that. I look forward to your suggestions. thanks again
