iPod Classic issue

My iPod Classic, colour, video 80GB, scroll wheel has issues.


Model number A1238 Date introduced: September 2007


It won't switch on manually. It irregularly starts up to a white screen and this remains for about 10 to 30 seconds before switching off. The unit is warm whilst plugged in suggesting the battery is charging.


I can not reset it! Holding down the Menu and centre buttons does not work, even after sliding the HOLD button on & off.


It will not mount in either iTunes or Disc Utility.


Any help and suggestions greatly appreciated. It worked fine plugged into my cars audio system until...

SOLVED:


it seems the cable was at fault. Connecting but not charging. I charged overnight with a iPod player (24hrs) and it's back to life as if nothing had happened. I've always believed these things are pretty robust.Android? 🤦‍♂️

Many thanks for responding and i've looked at the article. in all cases it assumes that I can reset it or at least attain a start up apple logo. Not the case with this. I cant start it, it only starts on it s on and then only to a blank white screen, shutting down 20/ 30 seconds later


Holding down Control and menu results in nothing. If the screen is 'on' and white whilst doing this, it will prompt a shutdown with no restart. It is therefore not even possible to get diagnostic mode up...

That doesn't sound good. I think your iPod may have failed. Mine did, a long time ago.

I hesitate to suggest this, as the last time I did the entire discussion was removed. I don't think it was my suggestion, but I wasn't able to identify any specific reason why the thread should have disappeared:
