How to use the keyboard to shut down now the power key is gone?

I want to use the keyboard to shut down my new Macbook but this Mac doesn't have a Power ON/OFF key.

I used to tap the Power ON/OFF key, top right, but the replacement key there doesn't power it down not even with modifier keys.

If I could open the Apple dropdown menu I could type R then S but how do I get to the Apple menu using the keyboard?

MacBook Air, macOS 14.1

Thank you Stedman1. What you say is what I expected it to do on mine but it doesn't. It only logs me out.

Do you know where in Settings is the place where I can change the effect of holding down the fingerprint button to shut down instead of logout help please? I can't see it in settings nor ion the Help/User Guide under Shut down, Touch Id or keyboard shortcuts.

Shut down works fine. After opening the apple (🍏?😂) menu tapping on Shut down works fine. So does typing R then S (S alone or even twice doesn't do it)

But I don't want to struggle with a mouse... I used to press the Power key followed by enter. Now the power key (long tap) just logs me out.

I'm so glad you told me Long tap on touch ID key works for you. It means that if only I could find the place in Settings where I can re-define what long tap on that key does I'd be laughing...
