Can't see or change sliding text colour

I wanted to use the sliding text, but since it is a cut out, it didn't work on my background video.

After trying various options I found a closed topic with the same issue and no easy resolution. I didn't think I would be able to easily animate a custom version.

I found that putting a second sliding panel with no text in it, behind the one with my text, making it the colour that I wanted my text to be and setting the start and end points to match offered the solution I wanted.

I've rebuilt this particular title and if you'd be interested, you can download it (free) from this page:

https://fcpxtemplates.com/downloads. (Among others...)

Comparing the two versions:

Original:

Fixed Rectangle size

If you accidentally drag the text away from its position, it is misaligned with the rectangle. The only

practical way of getting it back is to start over with a new copy of the Title.

Cannot be placed in any other location of the screen.

You cannot fill the text (from the Title itself).

Only designed to work in 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratios.

Replacement: (Sliding Panel - SC)

You can place the text anywhere on the screen by clicking and dragging the text to a new position.

Rectangle background automatically "follows" text.

Rectangle has a "padding v" option (vertical padding). Trim down or fatten it up.

Rectangle automatically matches any font used (depending on how the fonts are designed*.)

Optional "drift" control (it can be turned off or increased slightly - will help when lengthening the Title's time)

Lowercase or Uppercase text — All Caps option included.

Text Fill/Color options included.

Designed to support "social media" video sizes up to cinematic layouts (but you have to place the text where

you want or need it — it defaults near center screen)

Similar parameter layout:

*Of all the fonts I have installed, there's one called "Channel" that goes way over the Ascent and Descent boundaries. This Title will still handle it with the extra Padding V option available.

Can the vertical movement and bar size match just by adjusting the text In and Out? I think the color of the text bar at the bottom is slightly visible, what do you think?

I quickly realized that it was possible to do this by placing a generator under the text and making it animate. After I finished making it, I read Tom's explanation from 11 years ago and couldn't help but laugh because he had the exact same idea as me, hahaha😂

You could just use a custom generator of whatever color you want. Crop it to the right shape, and animate one side to slide on the screen. Put the text on top of it.

Thank you. I see perfectly what you mean now, and your solution is effective and elegant, and probably

the best if you want to work within FCP alone.

Do you happen to have Motion? If you do, it is relatively easy to Open a Copy in Motion and make slight changes

to allow for an opaque text.

As it is, the text has Blend Mode "Silhouette Alpha", and that is why it is transparent.

You can simply publish the Face parameter, and the Blend Mode, and then you can choose any color you like.

Or add a checkbox and have the Blend Mode be rigged to it. Call the checkbox "Opaque", and rig the blend mode to be either "Normal" or "Silhouette Alpha", depending on the status of the checkbox.
