I recently purchased an iPhone SE3, which came with a pair of earbuds. Great, I thought, until I unboxed them and found that they have a headphone jack which the phone won't accept. Why would Apple package this phone with incompatible earbuds?

Then it is either not the model you think it is or it has been opened and messed with. The iPhone SE (3rd generation) does not come with headphones.

FWIW. I can confirm IdrisSeabright's comments as I purchased my 3rd gen iPhone SE, directly from Apple, and it did not come with a wired (or wireless) EarBuds ... only the charging cable was included. I also got it last year.

Apple wouldn't. Apple hasn't included headphones in the box with iPhones since 2020 and the iPhone SE (3rd gen) wasn't released until 2022. Was this a used phone?
No, a new phone, dated 2022. I bought it at Best Buy.
