Anyone find that Preview and QuickTime Player will show previously-closed files on launch?

On double-clicking a movie file in Finder, QT Player launched to show it... but also pulled up the previously-viewed file, which I had closed.

Preview will occasionally do the same thing. This seems to be a bug introduced with Sonoma.

Needless to say, this is a serious bug because it could pull up confidential or highly inappropriate content at a profoundly wrong time. Thus far the only tendencies I've noted with it are:

  • It's much more common when the previous content resides in a hidden directory. This might even be required.
  • I couldn't get it to happen with a short movie file. Files in the hundreds of megabytes will do it.

Clearing the recently-viewed files list doesn't prevent it. When the previously-closed file re-opens, the playhead is in the position at which it last resided.

I have "close windows when quitting an app" activated, so that's not it (although it shouldn't happen anyway because I explicitly closed the files).
