Apple Wired Headphones

Double clicking the center of button on Apple Wired Headphones used to initiate the fast forward function in Apple podcast app. This has changed in iOS 17. Now double clicking the center of button permanently doubles the playback speed. This requires one to go into the app to change the speed. What is Apple’s thinking on this functionality change. No one is reporting about it.
