reinstall microsoft office
I have an older Mac and just updated software and now my old Microsoft office isn't working and can't update it because I can't update software to macOS 12.0

What version of Office? What Macbook Pro sub-model (the bit with a year)? Those make all the difference in how to proceed. Without those we are guessing. What we know:
- Office 2011 and older cannot run on macOS 10.15 Catalina or higher under any circumstances.
- Office 2016 should work but only if updated to 64-bit BEFORE upgrading the macOS.
- The current version of Office only installs on the current and past two versions of MacOS: Sonoma, Ventura and Monterey.
- The big problem is that Microsoft has been taking down the activation servers for older versions of Office. You cannot reinstall your current version even with a valid key if they have cut off the activation server.
You can look at other customer-friendly options LibreOffice. That one reads and write Office files formats and its menu structure is similar to Office apps.
