Changes to music app after update to iOS 17.1.2 on 9th gen iPad

I updated to iOS 17.1.2 and now my alphabet index for music is gone when I create a new playlist or edit an existing one. On the right hand side of my songs listing, the alphabet was displayed so that I could quickly skip to songs beginning with that letter. That feature appears to have disappeared.

It also is a bit odd that to add music, I don’t select the “+” sign, that is to the left of “Add Music”, but instead select the “Add Music” text. It also is at the bottom of the playlist and prior to the update it was at the top of the playlist. It is preferred to have it at the top.

Also, when I am playing music and my Home Screen goes to sleep, I still see the song that I have chosen to play, in a mini song play view, but the volume indicator is missing. I thought both features appeared in prior iOSes.

An enhancement to think about. It would be nice if the notes app had an index like the song listing has. This would be very convenient to be able to skip to a note that begins with a specific letter.

To see the alphabet you need to be in Songs. Either + or Add Music text should be selectable by tapping. Add Music is at the bottom. The volume indicator should be showing on Lock Screen. See if closing the app and force restart helps with the volume indicator:

Close an app on your iPhone or iPod touch – Apple Support (AU)

Force restart iPhone – Apple Support (AU)

You could also see if offloading the app and downloading again helps with the volume indicator. Offloading retains all documents and data.

I’m with you on this one. This update to IOS 17 and IOS 17.2 has completely messed up getting my music easily on my IPad. First the music couldn’t be selected because the playlists were frozen, (IOS 17.0) - presumably fixed with 17.2 but now no alphabetical index as in the past and no recognition in the playlist when trying to add new music.

I feel that Apple really doesn’t care much about Ipad users when they “update” operating systems and they should.
